Calera’s Mt. Harlan Vineyards are located in the Gavilan Mountains 25 miles east of the Monterey Bay. The site was chosen for its limestone soils and ideal climate. At an average elevation of 2,200 feet it is among the highest and coolest vineyard sites in California. Plum character mingles with complex sous bois, mushroom and herbal character.

Pale red. High-pitched aromas of redcurrant, cherry and herbs, with a hint of dried rose. Light-bodied, with sweet red fruit and floral pastille flavors and a hint of tarragon. Firm on the finish, which repeats the red fruit and herb notes and lingers with sneaky persistence. This put on weight with aeration and picked up a bitter cherry quality, along with a suggestion of black tea; I'd give it a bit more bottle age and check back next year.Josh Raynolds1st November 2010
