The Brora 30 Year Old 4th Release is a highly sought-after single malt Scotch whisky, released in 2005 as part of Diageo`s annual Special Releases series. Distilled at the legendary Brora distillery in the Highlands, which was closed in 1983 but has since been rebuilt and reopened, this expression was aged for 30 years before being bottled at a natural cask strength of 56.3% ABV. This release, limited to only 3,000 bottles, is particularly prized for its complex and maritime character, which is often described as a blend of smoke, wax and salt.

Originally known as Clynelish, Brora was established in the early 1800s by the Duke of Sutherland. The distillery was popular with blenders to the point where a second site was required to meet demand (still in operational as Clynelish). The original distillery was closed in the late 1960s and reopened in the 1970s, producing a range of malts - from heavily peated to very lightly peated.
Having long been one of the most popular closed distilleries for collectors and drinkers, Brora is now being refurbished and reopened by the current owners Diageo. The first bottlings are expected in the mid to late 2020s - the whisky world waits with baited breath!
