This is a vintage Brora from independent bottler Douglas Laing, released as part of the Old Malt Cask series. Distilled in November 1982, the whisky was aged in a sherry butt for 21 years before been bottled. Brora had shut down in 1983 but has been recently relaunched after three years of painstaking restoration.

Brora

An Elusive Highlander

Originally known as Clynelish, Brora was established in the early 1800s by the Duke of Sutherland. The distillery was popular with blenders to the point where a second site was required to meet demand (still in operational as Clynelish). The original distillery was closed in the late 1960s and reopened in the 1970s, producing a range of malts - from heavily peated to very lightly peated.

Having long been one of the most popular closed distilleries for collectors and drinkers, Brora is now being refurbished and reopened by the current owners Diageo. The first bottlings are expected in the mid to late 2020s - the whisky world waits with baited breath!
