Brane Cantenac 2008 is a medium-bodied, Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux. Formerly owned by the great figures of Bordeaux wine, Lucien Lurton, Château Brane-Cantenac is a highly respected `Super Second` estate in Margaux. The estate has been owned and run by Lucien’s son, Henri, since 1992. "Solid wine, dark, firm and powerful. The black currant fruits shear through the tannic texture, giving a wine that is juicy, fresh, structured and definitely for aging." Wine Enthusiast, 2011

The 2008 Brane-Cantenac continues to display the eucalyptus element that I have noticed on previous bottles, and frankly, it’s distracting and obscures the terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied and slightly medicinal in style, and one of the most rounded Brane-Cantenacs in recent years in terms of texture, something that I would not have predicted given the vintage. However, the finish lacks the complexity and typicité that I expect from the estate. Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château. Neal Martin1st January 2019

Looks a little pale and evolved with a pale rim. Fresh, mildly chocolatey nose. Sweet start – Cantenac Brown? [no!] Soft and easy with quite marked astringency. Fast fade. (JR)

A Distinguished Second Growth

Formerly owned by the great figures of Bordeaux wine, Lucien Lurton, Château Brane-Cantenac is a highly respected Second Growth estate in Margaux. The estate has been owned and run by Lucien’s son, Henri, since 1992. Although perceived to have gone through a lull during the 1970s and 1980s, historically, Brane-Cantenac was always regarded as the a ‘Super Second’. This reputation has only been enhanced by Henri Lurton, through the implementation of better vineyard management techniques (the entire 75ha has been certified organic since 2016) and investment in cutting-edge cellar technology (for example, optical sorting machines).

The estate grows mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (slightly more Cabernet) along with a small amount of Cabernet Franc and Carmenere. The Grand Vin of Château Brane-Cantenac is noted for its ripe tannins, excellent fruit concentration and structure, and perfumed delicacy – all characteristics of the finest wines of Margaux.
