Bourgogne Aligoté Sylvain Cathiard 2023 offers a crisp and refreshing profile with a notable acidity that defines its character. Aromas of green apples and subtle citrus notes emerge in the glass, accompanied by hints of white flowers. The palate is marked by a firm structure, showcasing bright minerality that is reflective of its terroir in Burgundy.

Aligoté is a lesser-known grape variety in the Burgundy region, often overshadowed by the more famous Chardonnay. Sylvain Cathiard is celebrated for meticulous vineyard practices, resulting in wines that express both individuality and the essence of their origin. This vintage exemplifies the potential of Aligoté, appealing to those who appreciate a vibrant and food-friendly wine.

The 2023 Bourgogne Aligoté was bottled in April. It has a clean and sharp bouquet—a little more malic, perhaps from the fruit located up in the Hautes-Côtes. The palate is well balanced, a little oily in texture, with fine acidity and a lighter, sour lemon- and ginger-tinged finish. Enjoy this over the next four or five years.

Domaine Sylvain Cathiard

This small, family run domaine was first established in the commune of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy by Sylvain Cathiard’s grandfather. Since 2011, following the retirement of Sylvain, the domaine has been run by Sylvain's son, Sébastien Cathiard. Famed for the superb quality Pinot Noir it produces, the domaine has vineyard holdings across Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-St-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny, in addition to tiny holdings in Clos Vougeot and Romanée-St-Vivant.

In the words of esteemed critic, Neal Martin, "“Do I need to tell you how much I adore Sylvain Cathiard’s wines? This is a seriously good quality producer of Vosne-Romanée, one whose star is in the ascendant. These are gloriously silky smooth, complex wines; not just with the top Premier Crus but down to the generic Burgundy. It’s the intensity and focus that set Cathiard apart, wines with supreme definition and purity that seduce the palate like a beautiful courtesan. I would love to taste his Grand Crus, but they are incredibly rare and sought-after. This producer comes highly recommended from top to bottom.”
