Domaine de la Vougeraie was created in 1999 when Jean-Claude Boisset consolidated all the vineyard holdings accrued from his various négociant companies. The supber 2017 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru was sourced from a 0.7ha biodynamically farmed plot with vines dating back to 1901, 100% whole-bunch fermented and aged for 16 months in 40% new oak.

The 2017 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a generous bouquet, the discreet stem addition lending an attractive leafiness that complements the brambly red fruit. More undergrowth scents emerge with time. The palate is silky-smooth on the entry, very plush but controlled, and despite the opulence, terroir floods through this Bonnes-Mares, which fans out wonderfully on the finish. This is an impressive showing and one of the best from the domaine this vintage. A long-term prospect. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.Neal Martin1st January 2022

Top Flight Biodynamic Burgundy

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
