Domaine de la Vougeraie was created in 1999 when Jean-Claude Boisset consolidated all the vineyard holdings accrued from his various négociant companies. For the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, fruit is sourced from a 0.7ha biodynamically farmed plot with vines dating back to 1901. The 2016 is expressive and open-knit with abundant red berry fruit and exceptional clarity throughout.

The 2016 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru sports a lot of reduction on the nose, although this fortunately blows away to reveal lovely red berry fruit mixed with violet and tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy opening, slightly coarse tannins with a bit of attenuation towards the finish. Fine, if not as profound as I would have liked. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.Neal Martin1st October 2019

Top Flight Biodynamic Burgundy

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
