Joseph Drouhin Bonnes-Mares 2009 is a full-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Grand Cru climat of Bonnes-Mares in the Chambolle-Musigny appellation of the Côte de Nuits. Joseph Drouhin is one of the most respected names in Burgundy. An owner of domaines including Domaine Marquis de Laguiche and the monopole of Clos des Mouches, as well as operating a hugely successful negociant business, the family-owned Drouhin is justly respected for producing such a diverse portfolio of Burgundy wines with such a clear signature of their terroir. On the 2009 Bonnes-Mares. "An especially ripe nose displays notes of mocha, stone, cassis, plum and spice hints that precede rich, dense, powerful and palate drenching flavours that possess excellent concentration and focused power that is shaped by the very firm tannic spine that should assure an exceptionally long life. At present, there isn`t quite the sheer complexity of the Amoureuses or the Musigny but there is so much underlying material that this aspect will undoubtedly improve with time in bottle." Vinous
(bottled in September) Good medium red. Very reticent aromas of red cherry, menthol and wild herbs. Broad and sweet, with complex flavors of herbs, flowers, licorice and mint. Still needs time to recover from the bottling. Expands impressively on the back half, finishing with very good structure and weight. This has more edges than the Amoureuses but really needs patience. I'd bet on this broad, sweet wine aging gracefully.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2011
