Duty Charges

Transparent Billing and Rate Calculations

Annual Billing: Clients are invoiced annually based on the wines stored in the preceding year.
Case Equivalents: A case is defined as 9 litres of wine (typically twelve 750ml bottles), ensuring clarity in pricing.
Pro-Rata Charges: Storage fees are charged on a per-bottle basis, and wines stored for part of a month will be billed accordingly.

How to Use Our Bonded Storage

Purchase en primeur or under-bond wines from Hedonism Wines.
Automatically enjoy twelve months of free storage at our bonded storage when you open your storage account.
After twelve months, your storage will continue at the rates outlined above, with quarterly invoicing.
When you are ready to receive your wines, simply request delivery. Most orders are fulfilled within 3-4 working days.

Bonnes-Mares is one of the most fragmented grand cru vineyards in Burgundy, where a number of high-profile domaines produce some of their best cuvées. Amongst them is Domaine Georges Roumier which has six parcels here. This release is their 1990 expression, a fantastic vintage in Burgundy thanks to a hot and dry growing season.

What a fabulous wine the 1990 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru! Youthful in colour, it has beguiling complexity on the nose, secondary aromas percolating through the carapace of red fruit: truffle, smoke and a touch of peppermint. The palate is quite dense and voluminous, as you would expect given the growing season, yet there is sensational precision and poise. The final third delivers incredible tension and mineralité, hints of iodine and spice lending more complexity and the aftertaste continues on and on and on. I wonder if this is à point? Then again, there is so much substance that you can easily envisage this offering another two decades of drinking pleasure. Stunning. The wines of this famed domaine, long known for its classic old style burgundies, do indeed improve with cellaring. The Domaine Roumier made some of the finest 1988s and their 1990s range from excellent to outstanding.

In 1990, Roumier made only one cuvee of Bonnes Mares, blending his vineyard holdings from the Chambolle-Musigny side with those from the Morey St.-Denis side. Readers may remember that in 1988 there were 100 cases made of a fabulous Cuvee Vieilles Vignes. Although Roumier's 1990 does not rival his top cuvee of 1988, it is a terrific red burgundy, with a dark ruby/garnet color, a big, spicy, plummy, earthy nose, rich, opulent, muscular, full-bodied flavors that exhibit terrific extraction of fruit, and a spicy, mineral, iron-like finish with significant tannin. It reminds me of his 1985, but with much more stuffing and grip. Drink it between 1994-2008.

Domaine Georges Roumier

A Icon of Fine Burgundy

One of Burgundy's most famous producers - founded in 1924 by Georges Roumier, the domaine was passed to his son Jean-Marie in 1957 and eventually on to his grandson Christophe in the early 1990s. Vines are either rented from family members or managed on a share-cropping basis and the cellar team operate a dynamic approach to winemaking, subtly altering their techniques depending on the vineyard and vintage. Some fruit is fully destemmed before fermentation while some is partially destemmed. A cool maceration takes place before fermentation, which takes place in wooden vats, and punch downs happen twice a day. Use of new oak is judicious - only around 20% for the village wines, 35% for the Premier Crus and 50% for the Grand Crus.

If Georges Roumier only produced Chambolle-Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Clos St Denis, the winery would still be considered one of the greatest in Burgundy, but their other-worldly Musigny Grand Cru elevates their status among the great wineries of France to legendary.
