Bonnes Mares Francois Bertheau 2008 is produced from a carefully tended vineyard parcel located predominantly on terres rouges. The nose reveals earthy red berry fruit aromas, accompanied by subtle hints of spice. The palate showcases medium-bodied flavours that are both robust and nuanced, reflecting the complexity of the terroir. Bertheau, a respected figure in Burgundy, practices traditional vinification methods, producing wines that express their origins clearly. This vintage offers the potential for ageing, while still being approachable in its youth.

Fresh red raspberry and pungent herbs in the nose of Bertheau’s 2008 Bonnes Mares lead to a sharply-bright, tart-edged palate impression and a finish of palate-staining persistence that adds fruit pit and citrus oil piquancy; crushed stone; as well as an invigorating sense of salinity and of crunching down on the red raspberry seeds. This hasn’t the refinement or allure of the corresponding Amoureuses but should hold up impressively for at least 6-8 years. - David Schildknecht
