Domaine d’Auvenay, owned and run by Lalou Bize-Leroy, sits at the very highest echelon of Burgundy production with wines that are almost unparalleled in rarity and quality. A rare find from the 2000 vintage, the exquisite Bonnes Mares. In the words of renowned critic, Allen Meadows, commenting on the 2000 vintage, "Explosive and dramatic black fruits soar from the glass followed by dense yet supple, rich and gorgeously textured flavours of absolutely incredible depth and length."

The 2000 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is a very pleasant surprise given that this was a challenging vintage for the reds. It offers very pure fruit on the nose: raspberry, cranberry and pomegranate, later blueberry with plenty of roundness and sensuality (more so than the broody 2006.) The palate is very well balanced, underpinned by super-fine tannin. I love the harmony of this Bonnes-Mares, that tang of sour cherry that keeps you alert. Then it tightens up towards the finish as if to say, it has more to give if you just afford it more time in bottle. This is superb. 1158 bottles produced. Tasted at the d'Auvenay dinner in Hong Kong.
