Illustrious Pauillac Fifth Growth, Château Lynch-Bages, has been producing a white wine since the 1990 vintage. The 2017 release is a wonderfully bold and expressive blend of 41% Semillon, 40% Sauvignon Blanc and 19% Muscadelle. Medium-bodied, refined and beautifully refreshing, it exudes delicious notes of stone fruits, green apple, citrus flesh, wild herbs, vanilla and honeysuckle. This is a very food friendly style of wine and would pair brilliantly with fresh seafood, chicken or cheese.

The 2017 Blanc de Lynch Bages is aged for 6 months in 45% new oak on the lees. It has a tightly wound bouquet at first that opens with time. Golden Delicious mixed with pear and a touch of sea spray, though I would like a little more delineation. The palate is nicely balanced with pear and nectarine notes. It needs just a tad more tension and complexity on the finish. I can’t help thinking that a partial malo would have just given another dimension here. Neal Martin1st February 2020

The Modern Pauillac

Situated in the celebrated Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, Château Lynch Bages uses around 60% of its 100 hectares to produce its first wine (a 5th growth in the 1855 classification) in addition to producing a second red, Echo de Lynch Bages. These wines display superb Cabernet Sauvignon character, together with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the blend. A wonderful example of the power and elegance of truly great Pauillac: gloriously supple and smooth with a tannic backbone.

A white wine, known as Blanc de Lynch Bages, is also produced in very small quantities. Made from an elegant blend of the classic white Bordeaux varietals, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle, the resulting wines display exhilarating freshness and dried apricot complexity.
