Domaine Ramonet is undoubtedly one of the top producers of white wines in the Côte de Beaune. Established in the late 1920s by Pierre Ramonet, the estate is now run by Noël Ramonet and his brother Jean-Claude. This release hails from the Grand Cru Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, where Ramonet owns approximately 0.4 hectares. The 2000 vintage is a beautifully mature wine, boasting notes of lemons, wet stones and a touch of mint.

The 2000 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a glorious nose with peppermint, yellow plum, white flowers and white pepper. Vibrant and captivating, the palate displays plenty of extract to create one of the more phenolic Ramonets that I have encountered from this vineyard, yet it retains plenty of precision and tension on the finish. This is probably approaching its peak. Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune. Neal Martin1st March 2023

A very strange bottle, this. Yeasty, gingerbread type notes on the nose. Sweet start to the palate but not fine. If someone had told me it was an Australian Chardonnay I would not have been surprised. Coming from a stable like this, I wonder if this was a faulty bottle? (JR)Jancis Robinson14th November 2002
