Château Beychevelle is a 4ème Cru Classé St-Julien property that, in the best vintages, produces wines that are as good as, if not better than, higher classified estates and are particularly renowned for their excellent longevity. From the magnificent 2000 vintage, this is a full-bodied and firmly-structured release composed of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. Now at the ideal age for drinking, this would pair magnificently with roasted rib of beef.

Vinous
The 2000 Beychevelle is slightly different from the other ex-château bottle tasted last year. This has a little more presence on the nose with peppermint-tinged red fruit, leather and camphor. Attractive, even if it is missing the typicité of the 2001. The palate is medium-bodied, and here I feel a bit of brett denudes the 2000 of delineation and the freshness it might otherwise have had. Well-knit, yet a little feral on the finish. Tasted at the Beychevelle vertical at the property. - Neil Martin
