Belgrave 2009 is a red Bordeaux blend comprising 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine presents a bouquet of dark fruits, with nuances of graphite and earth, suggestive of its Left Bank origins. On the palate, it showcases a structured framework with finely-grained tannins and a persistent finish. The 2009 vintage benefitted from the warm growing season, allowing for full ripeness. Château Belgrave is a Fifth Growth property located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, on the border of Saint-Julien.

The 2009 Belgrave has a ripe red cherry, kirsch scented bouquet with hints of raisin and fig. It is just flirting with over-ripeness...but not over-ripe! The palate is medium-bodied with candied red fruit, a little chewy in texture and perhaps needing more mineralité on the finish. Yet, there is fine density and decent precision on the finish. Maybe give this another couple of years in bottle. Tasted at BI Wines & Spirits' Ten Year On tasting.
89 Robert Parker
Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2009 Belgrave gives up baked cherries, mulberries, stewed plums and forest floor scents with camphor and spice box nuances. Medium to full-bodied, soft and fleshy on the palate, it has a spicy/raisin cake finish.
