Bélair 2000 is a full-bodied, Merlot-based red wine from the St-Emilion appellation of Bordeaux. Château Bélair – now renamed Château Bélair-Monange – is a Grand Cru Classé B property as per the official Saint-Émilion classification. The estate covers approximately 26 hectares, planted to Merlot [90%] and Cabernet Franc [10%]. On the 2000 vintage. "The great millennial Belair continues to impress. It has a wonderful nose that takes time to undress. blackberry, dark plum, raspberry, graphite and a touch of cigar smoke. The palate evokes the richness and the opulence of the vintage with a superb citric thread of acidity, finishing with structure and focus. Great potential." Neal Martin, 2010

Probably the best Belair of the last 10 or so years, this dark ruby has a tight but promising nose of loamy soil scents intermixed with crushed stone, red currants, and sweet and sour cherries. The wine is medium-bodied, relatively high in tannin, with an austere, somewhat attenuated finish. Anticipated maturity. 2007-2020. Last tasted, 1/03.

Good full red. Redcurrant, raspberry and a whiff of mushroom on the nose. Supple on entry, then perfumed in the middle, with clean, fresh, slightly clenched black cherry and redcurrant flavors. Turns a bit dry toward the back, finishing with floral red fruit flavors and a faint minty quality.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2003
