Jean-Paul Brun established Domaine Terres Dorées in 1979 with just 4 hectares of vines in Charnay in the south of Beaujolais. Winemaking is committed to terroir expression and is very much Burgundian in style, favouring rigorous sorting of fruit, complete destemming, long macerations, indigenous yeast fermentations, minimal sulphur additions, and élevage in either concrete or used oak barrels.
The 2018 Beaujolais l’Ancien comes from Brun’s oldest organically-cultivated vines in his home village of Charnay. They range in age from 40 to 60 years old and are planted on the area’s signature sandy clay-limestone soils. Fermentation and maturation is done entirely in concrete vats resulting in a vibrant, juicy and expressive wine, with lovely notes of raspberry, black cherry and dried flowers.
