Massolino Barolo Vigna Rionda 2011 is a single-vineyard red wine produced from Nebbiolo grapes in the village of Barolo in Piedmont, northern Italy. Vigna Rionda is one of the most iconic crus in Serralunga d`Alba, renowned for producing some of the most elegant and long-lived Barolo wines. "From one of the most celebrated vineyards in the entire Barolo denomination, this gorgeous wine boasts captivating aromas of new leather, underbrush, ripe berry, tobacco, a whiff of tilled soil and a balsamic note. Seamlessly combining elegance and structure, the long, compelling palate delivers layers of juicy black cherry, ripe raspberry, licoricey and clove alongside a backbone of noble tannins. It’s already a fantastic showing and will age wonderfully for decades." Wine Enthusiast, 2017

The 2004 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is a mystery. I tasted several bottles, all of them significantly more advanced than I had expected. It's hard to say exactly if the wine is aging quickly, or if faulty corks are to blame. The best advice I can give readers is to check in on the bottles. At its best, the Rionda is wonderfully perfumed and elegant, but I see less of that than is customary in these bottles.Antonio Galloni1st May 2015
