Barolo Sarmassa 2000 is a concentrated and opulent Nebbiolo from Roberto Voerzio, presented in a magnum format. The Sarmassa vineyard in Barolo is known for its southern exposure and clay-rich soils, which Voerzio exploits through his signature low-yield viticulture of 500 grams per vine. This wine spent 24 months in a mix of 30% new and 70% used barriques, followed by eight months in steel and eight months in bottle. The warm 2000 vintage resulted in a wine with intense notes of dark chocolate, berry compote and mint, backed by a plush and velvety texture. The 1.5-litre format has preserved the wine`s vibrant acidity and fruit purity, allowing the tannins to integrate gracefully over the last 25 years.

The 2000 Barolo Sarmassa (magnum) is another utterly impeccable, layered wine of the highest level. A melange of ripe red fruit, spices, flowers and mint literally explodes on the palate as this beautifully centered, poised wine shows its class and pedigree. All the aromas and flavors are woven in a rich tapestry of indescribable elegance. This is a dazzling Barolo from Roberto Voerzio. Anticipated maturity. 2015-2030. - Antonio Galloni
