Roberto Voerzio founded his estate in 1986 in La Morra, a historic village in the heart of the Langhe region. Renowned for its high-quality Barolo wines, Voerzio focuses on meticulous vineyard practices and small-scale production to craft wines with intensity, elegance, and exceptional ageing potential. The 1997 vintage offers a complexity of aromas, showcasing earthy undertones and hints of dried fruits, with tannins that reveal the wine`s age and structure. This vintage exemplifies the potential for long-term cellaring, appealing to those who appreciate classic Italian wines.
93 Vinous
Full ruby-red. More minerally and less extravagant on the nose than the '97 Brunate, but still shows rich, liqueur-like notes of red berries, mocha and brown spices. Offers wonderful sweetness and depth, with surprisingly sound framing acidity. Conveys a stronger impression of structure than the Brunate. Finishes with firmer tannins but also great sweetness. This will need time to express itself completely.
92 Robert Parker
The 1997 Barolo La Serra is a sexy, dense ruby/purple-colored effort offering notes of currants, black cherries, and licorice, a huge, chewy texture, plenty of glycerin, and a creamy, supple, velvety finish. Although impossible to resist, it will develop even more nuances over the next 4-5 years, and should last for two decades. Anticipated maturity. 2004-2023. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
17.5 Jancis Robinson
La Morra. Very deep colour. Exciting intensity on the nose with a lovely sappy, interesting topnote and many layers of flavour. The fruit is so intense that this wine is already fun to drink although tannins creep in at the very end. This wine offers tang and bite with zero pain until the very, very end of the tasting experience. (JR)
