Seven hectares of vineyards lie within the historic Ginestra cru in Monforte d’Alba, just south of Serralunga. Sitting between 300 and 350 meters above sea level, the terrain—rich in limestone marl and exposed to the south and southeast—provides abundant sunlight and ideal thermal conditions for perfect ripening. The original cellar, also built in 1886, remains at the heart of the estate. Here, traditional large French oak casks are used alongside modern equipment, embodying a thoughtful balance between heritage and innovation. In great vintages, Ginestra is celebrated for producing wines of remarkable intensity, depth, and structure, yet always with a sense of balance and grace. The resulting Barolos from Paolo Conterno age beautifully, expressing both the power of their terroir and the timeless craftsmanship of a family devoted to its land.

The 2011 Barolo Ginestra Riserva is every bit as special as the handsome wooden cases in which this collection is sold, along with a newly redesigned label. It`s a gorgeous vintage, very full and generous, whose warmer temperatures are reflected in lots of dark, black, rich and ripe penetrating fruit. The Riserva`s texture really emerges as unique because it is woven tightly and dense, yet there is ample softness and richness here. It is another Piedmont gem for your cellar. - Monica Larner

The 2011 Barolo Riserva Ginestra is a fabulous choice for readers who want to enjoy a wine that has a good bit of complexity. Generous and inviting, with terrific supporting structure, the 2011 is an absolutely joy to taste today. The aromatics alone are beguiling, but the 2011 is a wonderfully complete and expressive wine that captures all of the magic Nebbiolo is capable of. Chalk, mineral and a host of saline-infused notes extend the finish and suggest the 2011 has everything it needs to develop beautifully over the next handful of years or more. Impressive. - Antonio Galloni

Pale-medium ruby-garnet. Earth, some grilled-meat tones, dark chocolate, tar and spice. Broad, dark and brooding. Dense, deep, tarry-smoky palate, black and red cherry, with crushed rock, spice and old leather. Firm, fine tannins. Some alcohol, but since most dimensions are turned up to 11, this works. Long. - Tim Jackson MW
