Luciano Sandrone Barolo Cannubi Boschis 2009 is a Nebbiolo from the lower part of the Cannubi hill, where the soils are slightly richer than the higher slopes. Sandrone is a proponent of a style that bridges the gap between traditional and modern Barolo, using shorter maceration times and ageing in 500-litre French oak tonneaux. The 2009 vintage was warm, resulting in a wine with plush, ripe fruit and softened tannins that are approachable earlier than many Barolos. It displays a dark ruby colour with aromas of black cherry, vanilla and clove. The palate is creamy and concentrated, offering layers of dark fruit and menthol, supported by a subtle acidity that maintains balance through the finish.

Sandrone`s 2009 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is ample and generous on the palate, with terrific textural breadth and lovely resonance. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, smoke, licorice, spice and menthol build in the glass. A swath of underlying tannin shapes the wine nicely. At nearly ten years of age, the 2009 is entering the first part of its prime drinking window.Antonio Galloni1st February 2019
