Barolo Cannubi Boschis Sandrone 2008 is a red wine crafted from Nebbiolo grapes sourced from the Cannubi Boschis vineyard in Piedmont, Italy. Produced by Luciano Sandrone, a respected figure in Barolo winemaking, this bottling showcases the vineyard`s sandy marl soil, which contributes to the wine’s elegance. The fermentation occurs in open-top stainless steel tanks, followed by a 24-month maturation in 500-litre French oak tonneaux, with minimal new oak usage to preserve the wine`s intrinsic character. This vintage presents a profile of sour cherries, dried rose petals, and tar, framed by a structured and persistent tannin profile, characteristic of the Cannubi Boschis subzone.

The 2008 Barolo Cannubi Boschis, from Sandrone's library release program, is very, very young. It is also interesting to taste the 2008 today, as it was made during a time in which the wines were more overt and had greater French oak influence. The dark cherry, spice, leather and menthol notes are just beginning to show the first signs of the development that takes place in bottle. Even so, the 2008 remains fresh and silky, with quite a bit of power and textural breadth and reserve. Antonio Galloni1st February 2018

Lacklustre mid ruby beginning to show some age. Minerally and with hints of Moroccan leather, but very fine. Very polished, almost sleek on palate, but finish is in full grip of big tannin. Wait. (WS)
