Barolo Bartolo Mascarello 2008 exemplifies the traditional winemaking approach of this esteemed estate, founded in 1918. Guided by Maria-Teresa Mascarello since 2005, this wine reflects the elegance of Nebbiolo, showcasing intricate layers of tar, rose petal, and cherry, alongside earthy undertones. Its structure suggests potential for extended ageing, with a recommended drinking window spanning 2018 to 2038. This vintage represents a continued commitment to craftsmanship and authenticity, ensuring a profound connection to its Piemonte roots.

The 2008 Barolo (magnum) is a stunner, as it has always been. Intensely aromatic, silky and layered, the 2008 is so elegant. I especially admire its vibrancy and overall freshness, both signatures of the year. Plum, dried flowers, crushed rocks and lavender build in an undeniably sexy Barolo that hits all the right notes. Barolo and La Morra. Mid crimson just beginning to lighten up on the rim. Very slow to emerge sweet fruit. Extracted and concentrated palate wrapping up quite bold tannin. Rich style but totally convincing. (WS)
