Gaja Barbaresco 2004 is a superb expression of Nebbiolo from one of Italy’s most iconic wineries, the Gaja estate in Piedmont. The 2004 vintage is renowned for its elegance and balance, with rich aromas of fresh red fruit, crushed flowers, and subtle spices. On the palate, it offers a beautifully refined structure, with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that enhance its long, persistent finish. The wine`s complexity is a direct result of Angelo Gaja`s meticulous vineyard practices and commitment to traditional winemaking methods, which his daughter Gaia Gaja now continues. This vintage is an excellent example of Barbaresco`s potential, showing depth and finesse that will evolve beautifully with time.

The 2004 Barbaresco is at the beginning of what promises to be a long drinking window. Hints of cedar, cinnamon, earthiness and wild flowers open up in the glass with a sense of effortless grace. Brambly notes add a dimension of earthiness. There is so much to like here, first and foremost the wine's exceptional overall balance. What a beautiful wine this is. Today, the 2004 is a real stunner. Antonio Galloni1st June 2016

Gaja

From Turin to Tuscany

The Gaja Winery was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja and has been owned and operated by five generations of the Gaja family. One of Italy’s most renowned and dynamic wineries, Gaja first established its world-class reputation with the powerful reds it produced in the region of Piemonte in Northwestern Italy.

A key figure was Angelo Gaja, who took over the running of the estate in 1970 and sought to showcase the best that the Nebbiolo grape could produce with stellar Barolo and Barbaresco wines. The estate produces unique white wines too, such as the marvellous single varietal Sauvignon Blanc, Alteni di Brassica.

Gaja is also a leading name in Tuscany, having diversified into the production of Brunello and Super Tuscan wines. The Gaja family have owned the Pieve Santa Restituta estate since 1994 from which they produce two single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino wines, Rennina and Sugarille. In 1996, Angelo Gaja purchased the Ca’Marcanda estate in Bolgheri.
