Barbaresco Faset Roagna 2013 is a single-vineyard Nebbiolo produced by the Roagna family in Neive, Italy. This wine originates from the Faset cru, which is characterised by its steep, marl-rich slopes overlooking the Tanaro river. It has an expressive nose of crushed roses, wild strawberries and damp earth. The palate is vertical and precise, delivering flavours of sour cherry, liquorice and tobacco leaf supported by a core of vibrant acidity. This cuvée underwent a long maceration of approximately 60 days in large wood vats and aged for five years in neutral oak. It possesses a chiselled tannic structure and a lingering, mineral finish.

The Barbaresco Faset makes its debut in the range in 2013. Intense spice and tobacco notes meld into dark red and cherry fruit in this wonderfully open-knit, expressive Barbaresco. Already quite supple, silky and giving, the 2013 will drink well with minimal cellaring. This is a terrific first vintage from Luca Roagna. Today, the Faset gives the impression it will age at a faster pace than is the norm for Roagna, but, as readers know, these wines can also stay at plateaus of maturity for many years. This small half-hectare plot yielded just 2,000 bottles. Roagna aged the 2013 in a single 15HL cask.Antonio Galloni1st October 2018
