Barbaresco Asili Riserva Giacosa 2004 is a full-bodied Nebbiolo red wine produced in the Barbaresco appellation of Piedmont, Italy. Crafted from grapes sourced exclusively from the historic Asili vineyard, renowned for its calcareous clay soils, this wine embodies the region`s unique terroir. A pivotal figure in Barolo and Barbaresco winemaking, Bruno Giacosa oversaw the production until his passing in 2018. The 2004 vintage displays focused structure alongside complex aromas of dark fruit and subtle florals. It offers a profound expression of Nebbiolo, destined for extended cellaring.

Bruno Giacosa’s 2004 Barbaresco Riserva Asili emerges from one of his greatest all-time vintages. I loved the 2004 on release and I love it today. If anything, the 2004 is still a very young wine. Its power, density and structure are remarkable, especially compared with the lighter style many producers are pursuing today. This, to me, is what Barbaresco (and Barolo) are supposed to be. Deeply pitched aromatics lead into a core of dark red Nebbiolo fruit, supported by veins of tannin that confer vertical structure and explosive energy. Simply unforgettable. A masterpiece. Piedmonte Pioneers

Born in 1945, Bruno Giacosa began working at his father's wine cellar at the age of 16. Without formal training, Bruno rose to become one of Italy's greatest winemakers, producing some of Piedmont's most iconic reds. Producing both Barolo and Barbaresco, Bruno focussed heavily on sourcing fruit from the finest crus in the area. The estate only began building up vineyard holdings in the early 1980s and today have around 20 hectares under vine.

Bruno passed away in 2018 and since then the winery has been managed by his daughter Bruna who continues the traditional of careful winemaking and terroir-focussed grape selection. Since 2012 the winery have produced Barolo and Barbaresco entirely from estate-grown fruit. In extra special vintages a red-label Reserva is bottled, representing the very peak of fine Piedmontese winemaking. The purity of the fruit is the primary concern the team at Giacosa, ageing takes place in large, untoasted inactive barrels for around 20 months.
