A striking deep ruby in color, the intensely aromatic energy of the 2018 UV Pinot Noir soars from the glass with spectacular scents of warm raspberry compote, bergamot oil, sappy berries, and underbrush. This wine reveals unmatched breadth and concentration with plenty of plush black fruits and hints of clay earth, sandalwood incense, and sweet spices. Full-bodied and textured in the mouth, the verve of the mid palate leads to a silky, polished finish.

The 2018 Pinot Noir UV Vineyard is the darkest and richest of the three Pinots in Mark Aubert's lineup. Black cherry, chocolate, licorice and herbs are all broad and ample in the glass. The UV is a Pinot of gravitas, power and textural intensity. Ideally, readers should give it a few years in bottle, as the tannins are pretty imposing at this stage, just a few months after bottling.Antonio Galloni1st January 2020

Aubert

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
