Aubert UV Pinot Noir 2007 offers a representation of the Sonoma Coast terroir, showcasing the complexity of this esteemed grape. The wine features aromas of red cherry and subtle earthiness, with a medium body and structured tannins. Aubert Wines, founded by Mark Aubert, is known for its meticulous vineyard practices and small production, allowing for careful attention to detail. UV Vineyard named after famous viticulturist Ulises Valdez, illustrates the potential of Pinot Noir in the region, balancing fruit expression with a persistent finish.

Good deep red. Aromas of black cherry, black tea and a spicy hint of chocolate. Tactile and dense but with a light touch considering its 15.8% alcohol, showing lovely lift to its dark berry, spice and saline soil tones. There's a brooding quality to this pinot's dark fruit flavors, but its pliant texture and early sweetness and personality should give it more immediate appeal than the Rueling bottling. Finishes with ripe tannins, a slight suggestion of warmth and sneaky length.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2009

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
