With the Rutherford Sugar Shack Vineyard Chardonnay, Mark Aubert, in essence, wanted to create Chardonnay that was both bombastic and powerful, yet could be terroir driven and tempered by high acidity. Produced from the Montrachet clone, the 2017 is full-bodied, confident and crackling with energy. An array of aromas meet you immediately upon opening; tropical fruits, white peach, lime cordial, honey, whole spices, almond paste and stony minerality. This is high-octane Chardonnay at its best.

The 2017 Chardonnay Sugar Shack has a ton of tremendous up-front appeal and but perhaps a bit less in the way of persistence. In exchange, though, readers will find a Chardonnay will be ready to drink with only minimal, if any, cellaring. Hints of apricot, honey, almonds and mint linger on the inviting, expressive finishAntonio Galloni1st May 2019

Aubert

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
