Aubert Sugar Shack Estate Chardonnay 2016 showcases the craftsmanship of Mark Aubert, a winemaker with extensive experience at renowned Napa Valley wineries. This Chardonnay is sourced from Sugar Shack, Aubert`s estate in the Rutherford appellation, spanning approximately 3 hectares. The wine presents a profile marked by citrus zest, closely followed by subtle notes of stone fruit and a hint of minerality. It reflects a careful balance and a clear expression of terroir, distinguishing itself among California Chardonnays. Aubert emphasises integrity and approachability in his winemaking.

The 2016 Chardonnay Sugar Shack is one the more exuberant wines in this range. Orange blossom, honey, wild flowers and apricot are all laced together in this decidedly bold, ample Chardonnay. The Sugar Shack emerges from Aubert's home ranch in Rutherford, planted with Montrachet clone. The balance of fruit and acids is terrific. Even so, the Sugar Shack will appeal most to readers who appreciate the flamboyant side of California Chardonnay. Antonio Galloni1st April 2018

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
