Aubert is a boutique estate that produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines from single-vineyard sites in Napa Valley and Sonoma. Founded by husband-and-wife Mark and Teresa Aubert in 1999, it is regarded to be one of California’s cult wine labels.

Sugar Shack is Aubert’s home estate, located on approximately 3 hectares in the esteemed Rutherford appellation. The wine has intense aromas of ripe yellow peach and apricot, with hints of orange blossom and fragrant lemon thyme. Its rich and velvety texture is balanced by a refreshing acidity, showcasing the exceptional quality of the vineyard’s terroir.

The 2015 Chardonnay Sugar Shack is gorgeous. Orange confit, hazelnut, spice, baked apple tart, spice and light caramel notes are indicative of a mature wine. There's still good acidity, so the 2015 might hold for a bit more, but there's not much potential upside from cellaring this further. Antonio Galloni6th November 2025

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
