(15.3% alcohol; from a Montrachet clone grown on sandy Goldridge soil) Good bright medium yellow. Pure but subdued nose shows more spices and saline earth tones than fruit today. Then lush and sweet but with a light touch, with a softer impression of acidity than the Ritchie bottling and more stoniness and minerality showing than primary fruit. Finishes chewy, dry and youthfully reticent, with very good length and a touch of warmth. Distinctly Burgundian in its minerality and reserve.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2009

Aubert

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
