Powder House is the culmination of Mark Aubert’s 30+ years producing Chardonnay. The 2020 vintage is described by Aubert as follows, "The 2020 Powder House explodes from the glass with gorgeous aromatics of lemon sorbet, spice-tinged citrus, and orange blossom. An intriguing savoury soil note and a touch of wet stone give the wine its distinct interpretation of terroir. Concentrated flavours of yellow stone fruit and mineral tension on the entry an attractive sense of verve. The finish is long and palate staining with perfectly balanced acidity and incredible depth. This wine drinks well now but will enhance with extended cellaring. The wine is slightly hazy showing our commitment to minimal intervention winemaking."

The 2020 Chardonnay Powder House is a good example of the natural struggle of the year. It shows good energy and focus, even if the aromatics are a touch diffused. There is some aggressiveness in the contours and yet enough balance to hold it all together. The Powder House is very clearly the product of a hugely challenging year and set of conditions. Aubert

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
