Aubert Lauren Chardonnay 2012 is a notable expression from a winery established by acclaimed winemaker Mark Aubert in 2000. Aubert is regarded to be one of California’s cult wine labels. This vintage showcases complex characteristics typical of the region. On the nose, expect aromas of ripe fruit, delicate minerality, and subtle oak influence. The palate reveals layers of stone fruit, citrus, and a refreshing acidity that defines its structure. Aubert’s commitment to small-batch production ensures meticulous attention to detail, contributing to the wine’s intricate profile.

The 2012 Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard is surprising, as it is a bit more advanced than the other 2012s in this range. Perhaps the higher percentage of new oak used here contributes to that impression. Citrus confit, jasmine, dried pear and sweet French oak build nicely in the glass. The 2012 is undeniably attractive without being the superstar it can be. Antonio Galloni9th May 2024

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
