With a history dating back several centuries, Château Angludet has established itself as one of the leading properties in Bordeaux. Its origins can be traced back to the 12th century when it served as a defence stronghold. Over the years, it transformed into an agricultural estate and eventually found its true calling as a vineyard in the 18th century. The 2020 vintage is a blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot. While still in its early stages of development, the wine showcases immense potential and hints at the greatness that lies ahead. Available here in an Imperial bottle.

The 2020 Angludet is packed with dark fruit, chocolate, herbs and sweet French oak. Élevage has softened some of the burlier contours that were present en primeur. This forward, juicy Margaux looks like a near and mid-term proposition.Antonio Galloni23rd February 2023

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Angludet features scents of blackcurrant cordial, cedar, and raspberry leaves, followed by hints of tobacco leaf and sweaty leather plus a medicinal waft. The medium-bodied palate delivers a good amount of black fruits, with rugged, chewy tannins and a rather rustic, leathery finish.Lisa Perrotti-Brown29th June 2023

Biodynamic winemaking in Médoc

Home to the Sichel wine merchant family since 1961, Château Angludet is one of the oldest properties in the Médoc, with a history dating back to the 12th century. Although officially a Cru Bourgeois property, Angludet has made great strides in recent years and nowadays makes wines which are considered to be of Grand Cru Classé quality.

Angludet owns a single 32-hectare vineyard overlooking the Gironde estuary in Margaux, where the gravelly, sandy soils produce wines with particular finesse and elegance. Cabernet Sauvignon is the main grape variety planted, representing 46% of plantings. Merlot (41%) and Petit Verdot (13%) make up the remainder.

Since 1989 the property has been run by Benjamin Sichel, one of whose most important innovations has been the introduction of biodynamic viticulture (the estate has been certified biodynamic since 2022). Combined with Benjamin’s great skill as a winemaker, this has greatly contributed to the vitality and balance of the estate’s wines, which are consistently among Margaux’s finest.
