Situated adjacent to the vineyards of Chateau du Tertre & Chateau Giscours, Angludet is one of the stars of the Cru Bourgeois category. The wines are medium bodied & classically styled with great ageing potential.

Dark ruby. Enticing, deep aromas of blackcurrant, violet and flint. Dense and suave on the palate, with ripe black and red cherry flavors complicated by aromatic herbs, flint and sweet spices. The long finish features noble tannins and a blueberry syrup nuance. This serious and very successful wine will improve with age. Offhand, I can't remember the last time I liked a young Angludet so much--which, although surprising given the less-than-stellar vintage, suggests that good things are ahead for this estate. Then again, Margaux generally did very well in 2013.Ian d'Agata1st May 2014

Biodynamic winemaking in Médoc

Home to the Sichel wine merchant family since 1961, Château Angludet is one of the oldest properties in the Médoc, with a history dating back to the 12th century. Although officially a Cru Bourgeois property, Angludet has made great strides in recent years and nowadays makes wines which are considered to be of Grand Cru Classé quality.

Angludet owns a single 32-hectare vineyard overlooking the Gironde estuary in Margaux, where the gravelly, sandy soils produce wines with particular finesse and elegance. Cabernet Sauvignon is the main grape variety planted, representing 46% of plantings. Merlot (41%) and Petit Verdot (13%) make up the remainder.

Since 1989 the property has been run by Benjamin Sichel, one of whose most important innovations has been the introduction of biodynamic viticulture (the estate has been certified biodynamic since 2022). Combined with Benjamin’s great skill as a winemaker, this has greatly contributed to the vitality and balance of the estate’s wines, which are consistently among Margaux’s finest.
