Angélus 2008 is a full-bodied, Merlot-based red wine from the St-Emilion appellation of Bordeaux. Owned by the Boüard de Laforest family, Château Angélus is one of the most prestigious wine producers in Saint-Émilion. The estate is famous for its sumptuous, long-lived wines that are highly sought-after. On the 2008 vintage. "The 2008 Angélus offers a still youthful, vibrant colour as well as a classic Angélus bouquet of spice box, black currants, tobacco, and hints of white truffle. This elegant, silky effort is beautifully balanced, with sweet tannin and a great finish." Jeb Dunnuck, 2019

The 2008 Angélus is a vintage that I have tasted many times. It boasts a rich but fortunately not overbearing bouquet adorned with macerated red cherries, camphor, hints of jalapeño pepper and later, a tang of dried blood, almost ferrous. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth polished tannin matched with well judged acidity. It is backward in style to the point that you could almost describe it as charmless, though that is by dint of its youthfulness. It just needs time. Signaling that this Angélus clams up towards the finish as if to say. Too early. You know what? It is probably right. (Tasted at the château and at BI Wine & Spirits` annual vertical tasting.) - Neil Martin

The estate's vines are positioned with perfect southern exposure on a sloping vineyard where the soils on lower potion are sandier and the upper portion richer in limestone and clay - perfect for both Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Along with the Grand Vin, a second wine, Le Carillon d’Angélus, as well as a third wine, No 3 d’ Angélus, are also made.
