Dal Forno Amarone 2009 is a full-bodied, mature-vintage red wine produced from partially air-dried grapes in the Amarone appellation of Valpolicella, in the Verona district of northern Italy. A legend of Verona winemaking, Romano Dal Forno has been producing showstopping Amarones and Valpolicellas since the early 1980s. A protégé of the great Giuseppe Quintarelli, Romano is renowned for his scrupulously hardworking commitment to his craft, both in the vineyard and the cellar. "Rich, with aromatic herb and tarry smoke notes, this silky, supple red is framed by mouthwatering acidity and dusty tannins. Shows ripe and concentrated flavors of date, sun-dried cherry, forest floor and ground spice, displaying a sense of harmony and density that suggests a long future. The finish echoes the spice and sweet fruit character." Wine Spectator 2015

The 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella is one of the most sexy, open-knit young Dal Forno Amarones I can remember tasting. An enticing mélange of mocha, black cherry, bittersweet chocolate and leather captivates the senses. Incredibly open today, the 2009 can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring or aged for twenty years, perhaps beyond. Although the 2009 doesn't quite reach the heights of the truly epic vintages here, it comes very close and will provide considerable pleasure sooner than many of those wines. I don't think I have ever tasted a young Dal Forno Amarone with this much allure.

A living legend of Verona winemaking, Romano Dal Forno has been producing showstopping Amarones and Valpolicellas since the early 1980s. A protégé of the great Giuseppe Quintarelli, Romano is renowned for his scrupulously hardworking commitment to his craft, both in the vineyard and the cellar.

The estate of Dal Forno Romano comprises 8ha of vineyards in the Val D’Illasi. The area’s loose, alluvial soils, combined with Dal Forno’s strict pruning regime, produce remarkably low grape yields. Rigorous selection during harvest then gives the raw materials for some of the most expressive Valpolicella Superiore, Amarone and passito wines in the region. Four decades on from the founding of the estate, Dal Forno Romano is still run by the family, with Romano’s son Marco in charge in the cellar and Romano himself always on hand.
