David Abreu is a legendary producer of Californian red wines and Rothwell Hyde signifies the entry point to the range. This more easily accessible style drinks especially well in youth with its sumptuous combination of lush black fruit, heady spice and velvety texture.
93 Vinous
The 2015 Rothwell Hyde is a gorgeous, supple wine that is ready to deliver tons of immediate pleasure. In some recent vintages, 2013 and 2014 come to mind, Rothwell Hyde has been hard to enjoy young, but that is not at all the case with the 2015. Plush and inviting, with plenty of generous dark blue/purplish fruit, the 2015 has so much to offer. I absolutely loved the 2015 for its sensual, inviting personality.Antonio Galloni1st December 2018

Deep ruby colour, quite wild, smoky and animal on the nose. Raisins and brambly fruit. Very silky and soft in tannins with massive concentration and oily black fruits. This is a big, bold wine. (TP)Tom Parker26th September 2019

Terroir Driven Cabernet Sauvignon

David Abreu established his eponymous winery in the 1980s, purchasing the Madrona Ranch and converting it into a mix of farmland and vineyards. The Thorevilos and Capella vineyards were added a few years later and Las Posadas, a Howell Mountain vineyard, was added to the estate's holdings in the year 2000. The result is something quite unique in Napa - a collection of distinct sites all producing world class, terroir-driven Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaker for the last 20 years is former chef turned viticulturist Brad Grimes. Brad keeps the focus of the estate firmly set on the founder's original goal - to emulate the finest wines of Pauillac and Margaux. Based on the long waiting list and never-ended near-perfect critic scores, he's hit a home run in that department.
