This Right Bank appellation is a veritable hidden gem of Bordeaux, producing excellent value red wines from its superb limestone terroir. Merlot is the key variety here (accounting for 78% of plantings), along with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Boasting enormous winemaking potential, the often-underrated wines of Canon-Fronsac are not to be missed. Look for juicy reds with superb aging potential.
