Yquem 2006 is a noble sweet wine from the Sauternes appellation of Bordeaux. Château d’Yquem is a Premier Cru Supérieur Classé property that not only sits atop the highest hills in Sauternes, it also overshadows most other sweet wines in the world in terms of its extraordinary consistency, complexity and longevity. Widely considered to be one of the world`s greatest sweet wines, this is a wine with great balance and complexity, which can age for decades with ease. Available here in half-bottle format, the 2006 vintage from Yquem is a superb effort, offering up complex layers of citrus, stone fruits, honey, cinnamon, almond paste, chamomile and wax. Medium-bodied and lush on the palate, it has ample mid-palate concentration and effortless acidity, concluding with a long, spicy finish.
96 The Wine Independent
A blend of 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, with 122 grams per liter of residual sugar, the 2006 Yquem is pale to medium gold in color. It is a little shy to begin, requiring a lot of swirling to bring out notes of baked apples, peach preserves, and dried mango, followed by suggestions of ginger cake, toasted almonds, and crème caramel. The palate has impressive tension and tightly wound layers of stone and tropical fruits, finishing with wonderful length and latent depth. It needs time!Lisa Perrotti-Brown4th September 2023
94 Vinous
The 2006 Yquem is initially tightly-wound on the nose before revealing enticing scents of mandarin, dried honey, quince and just a very slight adhesive scent. This is well-defined yet certainly demands more coaxing than its peers. The palate is well-balanced with fine delineation, a caressing viscous texture with desiccated orange peel and a touch of bitter lemon that counterbalances the richness. I noticed this 2006 becoming spicier with aeration. Excellent. Tasted at the Yquem dinner at Rick Stein's restaurant in Barnes. Neal Martin1st April 2022
