`Château d`Yquem 2019 is a noble sweet wine produced in the Sauternes appellation of Bordeaux. Located in the heart of the Sauternes appellation on Bordeaux`s Left Bank, Yquem is the most prestigious producer of sweet wines in the world, and the only Sauternes producer to be granted the status of `Premier Cru Supérieur`. The estate vineyard is planted mostly Sémillon, with a smaller proportion of Sauvignon Blanc, as reflected in the wine`s blend. Harvest can involve up to 200 workers, who may pass through the vineyard up to 10 times to pick only those berries that have been infected with `noble rot`, the fungus which shrivels and dehydrates the grape berries, concentrating their sugars. One the 2019. "Clear push and pull between acidity and lusciousness from the first moments. A higher percentage of Sauvignon Blanc than in a typical year, showing in sculpted gunsmoke and white truffle on the opening beats. Fresher flavours continue with lemongrass and lime zest, broadening out into luscious mango, grilled caramel, pineapple and brioche, and a welcome edge of bitterness on the finish with mandarin peel and oyster shell salinity." Silky rich depths, clear even on the nose, but tingling mineral limon and citrus flavours, white pepper, basil, apricot. 138g/l residual sugar, 10hl/h yield. A higher percentage of Sauvignon Blanc than in a typical year, showing in sculpted gunsmoke and white truffle on the opening beats. Organic conversion began in August 2019, with certification expected 2022. Winemaker Sandrine Garbay.Jane Anson23rd June 2022

The 2019 d'Yquem is composed of 55% Semillon and 45% Sauvignon Blanc. Pale lemon-straw in color, it bursts from the glass with showy notes of apricot preserves, key lime pie, and cedar chest, leading to hints of candied ginger, pear drops, and honey toast. The palate is super-charged, full-on rich, and decadent, with soft acidity and epic length.Lisa Perrotti-Brown1st May 2023

The 2019 Yquem has a flirtatious bouquet with yellow plum, honeysuckle and jasmine developing with time. Fine purity, though not showstopping complexity. The palate is smooth and pure. Very nicely integrated oak, creamy, touches of vanilla and crème brûlée towards the finish. This is a quite gorgeous Yquem, though I am certain that given more time to open it would have merited a higher score. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Neal Martin1st February 2023
