The 2006 vintage from the illustrious Château d’Yquem is a superb effort, offering up complex layers of citrus, stone fruits, honey, cinnamon, almond paste, chamomile and wax. Medium-bodied and lush on the palate, it has ample mid-palate concentration and effortless acidity, concluding with a long, spicy finish.
98 Robert Parker
A monumental bottle of Sauternes despite a moderate level of residual sugar (122 grams per liter), the 2006 d'Yquem displays a singular, distinctive and elegant bouquet with aromas of thyme, sage, curry, baked pineapple and oregano. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it’s rich and concentrated, with superb acidity on the mid-palate as well as freshness, tension and crystalline texture, concluding on an endless, ethereal finish with a racy bitterness. Simply stunning! — Yohan Castaing, 31st October 2023
96 The Wine Independent
A blend of 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, with 122 grams per liter of residual sugar, the 2006 Yquem is pale to medium gold in color. It is a little shy to begin, requiring a lot of swirling to bring out notes of baked apples, peach preserves, and dried mango, followed by suggestions of ginger cake, toasted almonds, and crème caramel. The palate has impressive tension and tightly wound layers of stone and tropical fruits, finishing with wonderful length and latent depth. It needs time! — Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 4th September 2023
94 Vinous
The 2006 Yquem is initially tightly-wound on the nose before revealing enticing scents of mandarin, dried honey, quince and just a very slight adhesive scent. This is well-defined yet certainly demands more coaxing than its peers. The palate is well-balanced with fine delineation, a caressing viscous texture with desiccated orange peel and a touch of bitter lemon that counterbalances the richness. I noticed this 2006 becoming spicier with aeration. Excellent. Tasted at the Yquem dinner at Rick Stein's restaurant in Barnes. — Neal Martin, 1st April 2022

Sweet crème pâtissière on the nose. Solid and very rich and impressive. Real depth and unctuousness and complexity. This is great stuff. Long and layered. So long! Complex. (JR) — Jancis Robinson, 22nd January 2010
