This is just the fourth release of Yalumba’s top tier wine, The Caley. It is a classic Australian blend of two noble varieties from two great wine regions, Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and Barossa Shiraz. It combines the "linearity, firm tannins and persistent structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the voluptuous, textural richness of Shiraz."

From the fabulous 2015 vintage, this is a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Barossa Shiraz. Winemaker Kevin Glastonbury described this release as having “the fruit purity and tannin profile of the 2012, the structure of the 2013 and the generosity and approachability of the 2014.” Undoubtedly a classic in the making, this should cellar brilliantly for at least two decades.

Dark purple. Intensely perfumed dark fruit preserve, incense, vanilla and exotic spice qualities on the nose, along with hints of pipe tobacco and woodsmoke. Offers palate-staining, concentrated black and blue fruit, violet pastille and espresso flavors that deftly blend depth and energy. Finishes youthfully chewy and precise, with steadily building tannins, resonating dark fruit, spice and floral notes and superb persistence.Josh Raynolds1st December 2021

The fourth vintage of Yalumba`s new classic Australian blend. 74% Coonawarra Cabernet and 26% Barossa Shiraz aged in new and seasoned Yalumba-coopered barriques and hogsheads. Yalumba`s winemaker Kevin Glastonbury describes the 2015 vintage as combining `the fruit purity and tannin of the 2012, the structure of the 2013 and the generosity and approachability of the 2014`. Bottled on 29 June 2017. Will be released internationally in September 2020.

Dark crimson with some evolution at the rim. A certain dustiness and definite Australian (Coonawarra?) mintiness on the nose. Then some dry tannin. Halfway between the Penfolds concentrated style and the Henschke more relaxed, classic style. Pretty marked acidity at this point. I`m sure this will age very well, but at the moment it doesn`t really ring my bell – too dry and tart for me at this point. (JR)
