Wittmann Riesling Westhofener Grosses Gewächs 2024 is a dry white wine crafted from the limestone-rich soils of the Westhofen vineyards in the Rheinhessen region of Germany. Produced by Philipp Wittmann, a notable figure in biodynamic winemaking, this wine fermented spontaneously in large, neutral oak casks, achieving an alcohol content of 12.5%. The 2024 vintage presents a profile featuring yellow peach and crushed lime, underpinned by a distinct chalky mineral character. It highlights the tension and precision of the limestone terroir, resulting in a structured wine with a persistent and saline finish, emphasising the nuances inherent in Pinot Blanc cultivation.

The 2024 Riesling Westhofener trocken this year was made from Morstein grapes only. It comes from vines that surround the GG parcels. Usually, this also contains grapes from Brunnenhäuschen, but Wittmann decided against that this year. A lovely sense of chervil and moss join a certain creaminess on the nose, while the cool palate plunges into a note of lemon zest. This is as mouthwatering as pale lemon peel. It is fresh, pure and bright, sinking deep into limestone-tinged coolness and freshness. An intense saltiness appears on the long, lemony finish. (Bone-dry) Anne Krebiehl10th September 2025
