Wiston Estate Blanc de Blancs 2018 is a vintage English sparkling wine crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grown on the South Downs. The 2018 English vintage was exceptionally warm, resulting in a wine with a generous core of orchard fruit, lemon curd and toasted brioche. This bottling is defined by its racy acidity and a fine, persistent mousse that provides a creamy texture. It offers a long, saline finish that rivals top-tier Champagnes in its complexity and structural depth.

The 2018 Blanc de Blancs is a pure chalk-grown Chardonnay from base wines fermented in stainless steel and oak. You can almost smell the ocean; so bright, so ozone-scented is this wine, bringing hints of wet oyster shell and lemon purity. The palate carries on in the same brisk, bright and luminous fashion. Everything about this is fresh, oceanic, salty and brisk, yet there is a core of smooth, calm and ripe 2018 generosity. Svelteness, direction, linearity and depth mark this as a class act, deliciously bracing now but absolutely certain to evolve. Dosage is 8 grams per liter. Disgorged: August 2025. Tasted blind in a line-up of 10 English sparkling wines. Full bottle 1,599 g. 100% Chardonnay from a single vineyard on the Wiston Estate. Fermented in old French barrels and stored for nine months before bottling. The wine was then aged for 3.5 years on lees. Disgorged 8 June 2023. Dosage 8 g/l.

This really stood out in the blind line-up for it`s beauty and slowly unfurling magnificence. At first, just-poured and cold, aromas of lemon curd and buttery flowers, and on the palate, as delicate as a daisy chain and just as pretty. Like fresh buttered scones bright with lemon zest and candied lemon peel. But as it warmed in the glass, it grew, deepened, became more sonorous. It was as if the flowery petals were dropping away, revealing hitherto unseen richness. This is outstanding. (TC)
