The deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of sweet toasty oak, mocha, caramel, and ripe plum and cherry fruit. The complex aromatics are followed by a seductive, lush, racy effort with plenty of elegance and finesse as well as expansive, medium to full-bodied, sweet fruit flavors. Here is an estate where the 2001 clearly outshines the 2000. Pomerol lovers should be taking note of Vray Croix de Gay, which is beginning to fashion some serious wines, not surprising since it is a beautifully located terroir on what is usually called the sweet spot of Pomerol ... the plateau.
