The Château Vray Croix de Gay 1982 is a distinguished red Bordeaux from Pomerol, predominantly composed of Merlot and a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc. This vintage, part of the celebrated 1982 harvest, reflects the typical characteristics of Pomerol`s terroir, noted for its clay and gravel soils. With over 40 years of maturation, this wine reveals a mature profile marked by aromas of dried cherries, earthy notes, and hints of leather. The palate showcases integrated tannins and a subtle savouriness, indicative of its aging potential. Château Vray Croix de Gay is known for its precision and careful vinification.

The 1982 Vray Croix de Gay is a sub-par Pomerol, indicative of a property that was treading water. A rather enervated earthy nose is followed by a hard and obdurate palate with nothing much more than an astringent finish. Orange at the rim but still quite red at the core. Not especially bright. Quite restrained on the nose. Leafy, fresh red fruit and just a touch of forest floor. Delicate and refreshing. With time in glass, intense liquorice. A little dry on the finish, especially when you come back to it after the Margaux. (JH)
