Situated in Premeaux-Prissey, Domaine de la Vougeraie stands as a prominent Burgundy estate renowned for producing 37 distinctive cuvées each year. The label was established in 1999 when the Boisset family decided to consolidate what they deemed the finest 35 hectares of their vineyards into one single Domaine. This particular offering originates from Clos Blanc de Vougeot, a historic walled vineyard founded by the Cistercian monks. After spending 16 months in oak barrels, the wine further matured for an additional 2 months in stainless steel tanks. The 2021 vintage remains in its youthful prime, promising even greater rewards with a few years of cellaring before uncorking. Presented here en magnum.

Monopole. ‘La vigne blanche’, 3.03 ha (7.49 acres), principally planted to Chardonnay with some Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. Mid-pale lemon. Real concentration and power again. Rich and hedonistic, sprinkled with spice and focused by laser-like, scintillating acidity. (MH)Matthew Hayes6th April 2023

The 2021 Vougeot 1er Cru Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot was fairly reduced on the nose when tasted at the domaine and difficult to read. The palate is balanced with commendable weight and touches of tropical fruit with decent length, though surprisingly, given the vintage, it just needs a little more tension on the finish. Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
